Fiat Ducato Full Service Completed in Walsall

We recently had a Fiat Ducato come into us here at Platinum Vehicle Services in Walsall for a full service. The Ducato is a workhorse of a van, used by tradespeople, delivery drivers and small businesses, and it takes a lot of punishment over the course of a working year. This one came to us having covered a significant mileage since its last service, and the owner wanted to know it was in good shape before putting more hard miles on it. A full service is the most thorough level of routine maintenance we carry out, and this job was a good example of why staying on top of it saves money in the long run.

The Engine Oil Was Past Its Useful Life and the Filter Was Heavily Contaminated

The first thing we checked was the engine oil. When oil is fresh it flows freely and stays a clean amber colour. What we drained from this Ducato was dark, thick and carrying visible contamination. Oil breaks down over time and distance, and as it does it stops lubricating the engine's moving parts as effectively as it should. The oil filter, which is designed to trap the small particles and debris that circulate through the engine, was blocked well beyond what we would consider acceptable. A clogged filter restricts oil flow, which means parts of the engine that rely on a constant supply of pressurised oil are not getting what they need. Left long enough, that causes accelerated wear on components like the crankshaft bearings, which are not cheap to replace. We drained the old oil completely, fitted a new filter and refilled the engine with fresh oil to the correct specification for the Ducato's diesel engine.

The Air Filter Was Restricting Airflow and the Fuel Filter Needed Replacing

We pulled the air filter next. The air filter sits in the intake system and stops dust, grit and debris from entering the engine with the air it needs to combust fuel. This one was clogged with a layer of dirt that had built up over thousands of miles. A restricted air filter means the engine has to work harder to pull in the air it needs, which increases fuel consumption and reduces performance. On a diesel van doing regular mileage, the difference in fuel costs alone is worth keeping on top of. We fitted a new air filter as part of the service. The fuel filter, which removes water and sediment from the diesel before it reaches the injectors, was also replaced. Contaminated fuel reaching the injectors causes poor starting, rough running and, over time, expensive injector damage that can run into several hundred pounds to put right.

All Fluid Levels Checked and Topped Up, and a Full Mechanical Inspection Carried Out

Beyond the oil and filters, a full service includes checking and topping up all the vehicle's fluids, including brake fluid, coolant and screen wash, and inspecting the key mechanical components we can access during the service process. We checked the brake pads for remaining thickness, inspected the tyres for wear and condition, looked over the steering and suspension components for any play or deterioration, and examined the belts and hoses for signs of cracking or wear. Everything was recorded and fed back to the owner so they had a clear picture of where the van stood. Nothing was flagged as immediately dangerous on this visit, but the owner now has a baseline to work from at the next service interval.

If Your Van or Car Is Due a Service, We Cover the Full Range in Walsall

We carry out full, interim and manufacturer-schedule services on a wide range of vehicles here in Walsall, including Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Volkswagen, Ford and vans like the Ducato. If your vehicle is coming up to its service interval, or if it has been longer than you would like since the last one, it is worth getting it booked in before minor wear turns into a bigger bill. Signs to watch for on your own van or car include the engine oil warning light coming on, a drop in fuel economy you cannot explain, rough or hesitant starting, or any unusual smells coming from the engine bay. Any of those are worth having looked at sooner rather than later. You can leave us a message any time, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, on 07970901354 and one of the team will get back to you as soon as possible.
